SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING
Social emotional learning helps children grow self and social awareness while developing skills in relationship building and self-management. Montavilla PS implements SEL during morning circle and partner work. We work together as a cohort to cultivate a culture of nurturing kindness.
NATURE BASED LEARNING
Montavilla PS believes children and communities are intimately connected to the natural world. Our Nature-based learning approach utilizes the environment and its seasons as inspiration and guidance for learning. Children are encouraged to observe and engage with naturally occurring systems as a way of enhancing curiosity, creativity, and imagination. We believe this helps promote a child’s sense of connection, independence, and problem-solving.
ART APPROACH
Our monthly learning themes cater to art and project-based learning. We honor the artistic process as a fundamental part to learning and encourage children to discover their unique tastes, interests, and formats of self-expression through diverse art mediums and prompts.
REGGIO EMILIA
Reggio Emilia philosophy sees children as autonomous individuals filled with potential. Our Reggio Emilia inspired program views classrooms and outdoor environments as teachers. Our learning spaces are intentionally designed to mirror child curiosity and independent discovery. Natural materials such as: wooden blocks and woven sorting baskets are selected on a play and provocation basis to promote child-led learning in stimulating and aesthetically pleasing ways.
